Hello DIY sewing World!

26 Jan

This is my first official blogpost! Finally after a few weeks of hard work, the blog is finally sort of finished! So I guess you’re wondering what the future will bring for Misusu & more? Well, I will be talking about sewing. A lot. And also about fashion, DIY, handmade stuff and other creative things. If you’ve read the about me, you already know a little there is to know about me. But here are some funny facts:

I was born into a creative family. As a child, I thought of making your own clothes as an everyday chore. My mom spend so much time sewing, that it seemed to be a part of her every day household just like cooking and cleaning. I just loved it!
I spend many hours watching her, or sitting next to her drawing when she was making patterns, cutting fabrics or sewing something new. As a teenager, this “chore” became my absolute favorite hobby. I co-created my first garment when I was 13. And I’ve been sewing ever since.

Now I still make a lot of my clothes myself. Since I also make my own patterns fitted to my body, I also have to be my own fitting model. That’s why I have a sizable collection of weird fitting pictures of myself, which are funny and a little embarrassing…

Working as a designer, I’ve been privileged to work for some great designers and companies. During the years, I’ve been keeping lots of unorganized crazy folders of all these creative projects and design periods. I’ve been collecting advertisements, test prints of fabric designs, photo’s, sketches, technical drawings, mock-ups, artwork designs, fabrics, prototypes – everything that at one point would be considered trash, I collect and put in these folders until they almost explode. I basically have one for every major design period. My Cakewalk folder for example, is filled with extravagant crazy layered fabric designs and my Yoshiki Hishinuma notebook has an extra edge from being soaking wet by a typhoon…..

Next to sewing, I also love to cook Asian food, bike around the Netherlands and travel around the world. One day me and my man will own a farm with lots of animals, a few children, with a big creative working space, a massive kitchen and an awesome vegetable & fruit garden. Yes, I dare to dream!

At the moment I’m working very hard towards another dream – Misusu.co, a site where you can download printable e-patterns for babies & toddlers. It all started with my small handmade collection Hollund. One of the bestsellers “Bowie” became an inspiration for the first baby outfit I ever handmade. Now I’m working very hard to finish the first Misusu patterns. And the “Baby Bowie” will definitely be one of the first to be launched on the website! Next to the paid patterns on misusu, I’m also working on tutorials and free patterns, which I will be sharing with you on this blog. Next week the first free pattern will be featured on this blog. So subscribe to my mailing list  to make sure you don’t miss out on anything!

Till next time!
