Are you looking at a beautiful pile of cut pattern pieces? Then you’re ready to start sewing! In this chapter we’re going to assemble the front bodice - it’s so much fun to see everything come together! So let’s start!
Step 1 - Start with your front bodice & side bodice pattern pieces. With the right sides together, pin the side bodices onto the front bodice. Stitch the 1cm (⅜”) seams using a knit stitch or a small zigzag stitch. Finish the seams using a serger or a big zigzag stitch. Press the seam towards the sides.
Step 2 - Repeat for the back bodice. At this point you can topstitch your seams (that’s what I did, but it’s totally optional) and add any other embellishments. From here on, you can follow the steps in the tutorial to assemble your front bodice.
Step 3 - With the right sides together, place the front on the back bodice. Match the colorblock seams and line up the side seams and the shoulder seams. Pin in place. Stitch the 1cm (⅜”) seams using a knit stitch or a small zigzag stitch. Finish the seams using a serger or a big zigzag stitch. Press the seams towards the back.
Step 4 - Finish the raw edge of your sleeves with a serger or a big zigzag stitch. Fold the 2,5cm (1”) sleeve allowance towards the inside. Press & pin in place. Topstitch the sleeve hem 2cm (¾”) from the folded edge, using a knit stitch, a small zigzag stitch or a twin needle.
Step 5 - Attach the neckband by following the instructions in the tutorial (sorry, totally forgot to take pictures of this part!) and add an optional inside neckband. Step 6 - You’ve beautifully finished your dress bodice!
We’re in the home stretch - in the next and final chapter of our Rowan Dress Hackalong, we’re going to sew the skirt, attach it to the bodice and add elastic to the waist. Almost there!
